EXEMPLARY LEBEAU COURALLY 20 BORE "BOSS VERREES" OVER-UNDER HAND DETACHABLE SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH SUPERB HIGH RELIEF ACANTHUS SCROLL ENGRAVING BY LOVENBERG WITH CASE. LEBEAU COURALLY O/U BOSS 45468 20 GA MODERN Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. Although not a household name, Lebeau Courally is recognized by fine gun aficionados to be among the highest order of gunmakers. This exquisite example of the gunmakers art is near perfection with its fine demi-bloc 28" bbls with solid matted rib. Left side of top bbl is engraved "AUG. LEBEAU COURALLY A LIEGE. BELGIUM". Right side is engraved "MADE FOR W. L. MOORE & CO SCOTTSDALE A.Z." Bbl flat is stamped with makers name and address and bottom bbl with Belgian nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Small sized coin finished OU action is of Lebeau Courally's "Boss" type utilizing the basic principles of the renown "Boss" OU action with some minor modifications and improvements. This gun features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, H&H type lock detaching pin, and dbl triggers (front articulated) with finger blades temper blued. Action and lockplates are engraved with full coverage truly exceptional relief carved large open scrolling acanthus with floral terminations and highlights within some interlocking scroll borders. Backgrounds are completely cut away and nicely stippled. Makers name is not visible on action or lockplates, but is stamped inside action at bottom with proofs and SN on sides. Lebeau Courally logo is on breechface. Engraving theme continues onto trigger guard, which has SN on tang. This wonderful engraving is by the Lovenberg workshop, with signature on trigger plate. Exhibition quality, beautifully marbled, and finely stump figured dark European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over checkered wood butt, and features finely carved drop points and diamond hand. Checkering on butt and grip is of the first order, borderless, in classic outline within ogee scalloped borders. Matching 3-pc ejector forend has Anson release and inlet Lebeau Courally crest in gold on uncheckered panel. The 3-pc forend is deemed by the French and Belgians to be of the highest quality, and will be recognized by Browning collectors for its use on exhibition quality guns. Bore diameter: top -.616, bottom - .617. Bore restrictions: top - .011 (mod), bottom - .007 (IC). Drop at heel: 2", drop at comb: 1-7/16". Cast: approx 3/16" off. Weight: 6 lbs. 9 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". High quality dark brown leather motor case with stitched corner reinforcing, is lined in dark green cloth, and has small gold embossed black leather makers label in lid. PROVENANCE: Proof certificates. Patterning targets. Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new, with very little evidence of having been fired since proof, with only the faintest of firing halos on breechface, and one or two of the faintest of handling and assembly marks on all factory finishes on wood and metal. Mechanically crisp. Case leather is excellent with a few light rubs. Interior cloth is excellent, except detaching along hinge.
