FN SUPERPOSED EXHIBITION PIGEON GUN WITH SIDEPLATES AND EXCEPTIONAL TWO COLOR GOLD INLAY BY LOUIS VRANCKEN.FNOU F128122S12GAMODERN; C&R; IVORYCal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 30" Bbls with broadway, ventilated rib are marked "FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL BELGIQUE" on top left, and with chamber and Browning patents, on right. Blued nicely filed rounded action with ornamental sideplates features non-automatic safety and gold plated single selective trigger with checkered finger blade. Action is flush gold inlaid with line borders with scrolled finials, which accent nicely filed beads and top fence. Sideplates with the same borders, have two-color gold inlaid central motifs of nicely detailed relief gold pigeons flying across flush gold circle flanked by flush yellow gold laurel leaves. This striking and attractive inlay is signed "Vrancken" at lower front of left sideplate. Nicely fiddle figured European walnut long tang square knob Monte Carlo buttstock measures 14-1/2" over skip line checkered wood butt, and features carved drop points, and well cut modified point pattern checkering which wraps over grip, with carved small bead borders. Three piece schnabeled Superlight type forend matches well. Bore diameter: top -.726, bottom - .725. Bore restrictions: top - .38 (full), bottom - 18 (mod). Drop at heel: 1-13/16", drop at rear of Monte Carlo: 1-3/8", drop at comb: 1-3/8". Cast: approx 1/4" off. Weight: 7 lbs. 5 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, with a number of light handling and assembly marks, as would be associated with casual target shooting. Most notably there are a couple of scratches across pigeon scene on left lockplate, some minor dings on right side of buttstock, and considerably thinned finish on forend. Blue of forend mounting screw is considerably silvered. Bores are excellent. Mechanically excellent. An elegant target gun. Ivory front bead. 50594-63 MGM129 (10,000-15,000)
