DAINTY, DESIRABLE, AND DAMNED HARD TO FIND .410 FRANCOTTE "QUALITY 20" SIDEPLATED BOXLOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH CASE.FRANCOTTESXS1037410MODERN; C&R(1955) Cal. .410. 3" Chambers. 26" Dovetailed bbls fitted with slightly raised, matted game rib are engraved "Abercrombie & Fitch Co" "Made in Belgium" on top of right bbl, and "U. S. Agents New-York" on left. Bbl flats are stamped with 1955 Belgian nitro proofs for 3" chambers and with steel type, "FRANCOTTE CHOKE BORE", and crowned AF makers marks. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with more proofs, SNs, and bore restrictions, along with "Siemens Martin Steel". Small sized, case hardened, sideplated, boxlock action features automatic safety (S inlaid in gold), hidden crossbolt third fastener, side clips, and dbl triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved in a style which most closely emulates the pre war "20 Quality" pattern of 70% coverage varying sized scroll. Fences are engraved with somewhat bolder scroll. "A. Francotte Maker & Patentee Liege Belgium" is on bottom of left lockplate. Blued trigger guard with scroll on bow has SN on tang. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over checkered horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering with line borders is at grip, and a silver oval engraved "A. L. S." is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter at muzzles: left -.389, right - .402. Wall thickness: left - .024, right - .030. Drop at heel: 2-5/16", drop at comb: 1-3/8". Cast: approx 1/4" off. Weight: 4 lbs. 14 oz. LOP: 14-5/8". A&F marked English leather VC case with stitched leather corners, is embossed "A. L. S." on top. Case is lined in burgundy cloth and contains a pair of snap caps, exterior straps, and two keys. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain essentially all of a fine quality re-black. Action and lockplates retain 85 - 90% orig case hardening color, thinning on bottom, silvered on fences and sharp edges. Trigger guard has some silvering at grip. Stocks retain nearly all of a high quality hand rubbed oil finish, checkering freshened. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are very strong and in time. Case leather is very fine, beginning to darken. Interior cloth is very fine to excellent with some soiling and rubs. 50730-8 MGM123 (15,000-20,000)
