EXQUISITE, LIGHTWEIGHT, PRUSSIAN DALY REGENT DIAMOND QUALITY GAME GUN IN EXCEPTIONAL ORIGINAL CONDITION.CHARLES DALYSXS DIAMOND REGENT2525212 GAMODERN; C&R(1929) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 28" Dovetailed bbls are gold inlaid "Charles Daly Regent Diamond Quality" on slightly raised, matted game rib. Breech ends are engraved for almost 2-1/2" exceptionally well cut varying sized shaded scroll with beaded outline emanating from fern leaves and rose blossoms behind Witten Excelsior Steel logos. Bbl flats are stamped with German imperial nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers, and with a proof date of 2/29. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with steel type and provisional proofs. Makers name "W. Sch" (Schuler) is bottom of left bbl; SN is on bottom of right. Case hardened, scallop-backed boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), pin type cocking indicators, hidden square crossbolt third fastener, side clips, intercepting safety sears, and dbl triggers with finger blades checkered. Action has nicely filed beads. Fences are relief carved in scrolled shell motif. Action is engraved with full coverage fine scroll of the same type as on bbls, surrounding vignettes of dogs and game, realistically sculpted with major subjects exceptionally well rendered in gold; retriever stands on edge of pond on left side; with a pair of ducks flushing from cattails on right. Another duck flying head on towards you under a sovereigns crown is on bottom of action. "Charles Daly" is flush gold inlaid around bottom of fences. A hawk stooping upon a flying snipe is on central oval on trigger guard, which is engraved with scroll matching action. SN is on tip of tang. Very finely marbled and lightly figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Side panels are checkered within chip carved borders. Borderless checkering at grip is of fancy pattern, with fleur-di-lis intrusions and scroll flourishes into butt. Pistol grip is tipped by a ribbed horn button. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching long splinter ejector forend with inlet horn tip, has Deeley release. Bore diameter: left -.731, right - .731. Bore restrictions: left - .046 (extra full), right - .031 (full). Wall thickness: left - .025, right - .022. Drop at heel: 2-5/16", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: approx 1/4" off. Weight: 6 lbs. 3 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, original, as found. Bbls retain 95 - 98% orig blue with a number of small dings and marks, thinning just a touch from normal handling. Action retains 90 - 95% orig case hardening color, silvered a bit on fences and beads, thinning around bottom. Top lever has slight silvering on thumbpiece. Case hardening of trigger guard has mostly faded to silver gray. Interior of guard is still vibrant where protected by lacquer, engraving remains sharp and clear. Stocks retain nearly all of their orig oil finish, with a few light marks and scratches, checkering slightly darkened. Horn of buttplate shows some minor insect damage. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny throughout. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are out of time. Ejector pivot screw on left side of forend, has been replaced, and not engraved.
