BEAUTIFULLY ENGRAVED AND GOLD INLAID PRUSSIAN DALY DIAMOND QUALITY HEAVY GAME GUN BY LINDNER. CHARLES DALY SXS DIAMOND 1432 12 GA (ca 1895) Cal. 12 ga. 2-5/8" Chambers. 30" Dovetailed steel bbls are gold inlaid "Charles Daly Diamond Quality" on matted game rib. Breech ends are engraved for 1-1/4" with exceptionally well cut full relief large open shaded scroll with floral terminations and highlights behind Witten Excelsior Steel logos. Bbl flats are stamped with German imperial nitro proofs for 12 ga. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with steel type, provisional proofs, and "HAL" (Lindner) crossed pistol logos. Case hardened, scallop-backed boxlock action has been coin finished, with pins gold plated, and features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), pin type cocking indicators, hidden square crossbolt third fastener, side clips, intercepting safety sears, and gold-plated dbl triggers with finger blades checkered. Action is engraved with full coverage beautifully cut and finished large open flowing acanthus with floral accents, surrounding vignettes of dogs and game, realistically sculpted with major subjects well rendered in gold; trio of grouse (?) in open meadow on left, with a pair of snipe near small pond amongst conifers on right, and a pheasant, wings outstretched, struts into opening on bottom of action. A retriever startled by a sitting woodcock is in gold on trigger guard bow, and SN is engraved on tang. Beautifully marbled and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over brown Decelerator pad. Checkering is at grip. Matching long splinter ejector forend with inlet horn tip, has Deeley release. Bore diameter: left -.718, right - .719. Bore restrictions: left - .029 (full), right - .016 (mod). Wall thickness: left - .032, right - .028. Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: approx 3/8" off. Weight: 7 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 15". PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain nearly all of a high quality re-black. Action is cleaned to mostly coin finish with some hints of orig case hardening color which was never vivid, where well protected. Overall appearance is quite fine with excellent engraving, vibrant over darker silver background. Gold details somewhat muted. Stocks retain nearly all of a high quality hand rubbed oil finish, checkering competently re-cut. Pad is new. Bores are excellent. Action is very slightly loose. Bbls are a touch off face. Ejectors are in time. A very fine looking antique Daly. 50594-55 MGM105 (5,750-9,000)
