LIGHTWEIGHT PRUSSIAN DALY DIAMOND QUALITY GAME GUN BY LINDNER. CHARLES DALY SXS DIAMOND GRADE 1348 12 GA (ca 1894) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 28" Dovetailed bbls are engraved "Charles Daly Diamond Quality" on matted game rib. Breech ends have Witten Excelsior Steel logos. Bbl flats are stamped with German imperial proofs for 12 ga. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with steel type and "HAL" (Lindner) crossed pistol logos. Case hardened, scallop-backed boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), pin type cocking indicators, hidden square crossbolt third fastener, side clips, intercepting safety sears, and dbl triggers with finger blades checkered. Action is near fully engraved with well cut open shaded scroll within feather and geometric borders. "CHARLES DALY" is on each side of action. Scroll surrounds oval vignette of strutting pheasant behind fence line on trigger plate. A pair of grouse (?) is central theme on trigger guard bow. SN is on tip of tang. Nicely marbled and figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over ribbed horn buttplate. Side panels are checkered and terminate in elongated drop points. Checkering at grip is of point pattern. Pistol grip is tipped by a horn button. A vacant silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with inlet horn tip, has Deeley release. Bore diameter: left -.728, right - .725. Bore restrictions: left - .032 (full), right - .014 (mod). Wall thickness: left - .029, right - .029. Drop at heel: 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: approx 1/2" off. Weight: 6 lbs. 3 oz. LOP: 14". PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Very fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain 60 - 70% of what appears to be orig blue, with some later darkening over light scattered pitting, and considerable hand wear. Action retains 30 - 40% orig color, vivid where protected, balance a pleasing pewter gray, with some light pinprick pitting on fences. Stocks retain nearly all of a very high quality hand rubbed oil finish, with some light subsequent marks, checkering competently re-cut. Bores are excellent, chambers appear to have been back bored. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Sling swivels have been removed from bbls and buttstock. 50594-51 MGM107 (5,000-8,000)
