EXCEPTIONALLY RARE D. M. LEFEVER "5B" GRADE TRIGGER PLATE ACTION GAME GUN.D.M. LEFEVERSXS 5B119612 GAMODERN; IVORYCal. 12 ga. 30" Bbls fitted with slightly raised, narrow, matted rib, are engraved "FINE" "DAMASCUS" on tops. SN is stamped on bottom of right bbl. Rear portions of bbls are carved with typical Lefever high grade ogee decoration. Case hardened, trigger plate type, boxlock action features knurled roll safety, crossbolt top fastener, and gold-plated dbl triggers with finger blades checkered. Action is engraved with 50% coverage well cut scroll within geometric borders surrounding oval vignettes of double dogs on sides; setters on left, pointers on right. Bottom of action depicts a portrait of a spaniel (?). Front sides of action are engraved "D. M. LEFEVER - SONS + Co" on swags. Trigger plate is engraved "PATENTED 1902" in oval, and "NOT" "CONNECTED" "WITH" "LEFEVER ARMS CO". Trigger guard bow is engraved with scene of pointer. SN is on tang which extends to checkered hard rubber grip cap. Nicely marbled and lightly figured flesh-toned Circassian walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-3/8" over checkered wood butt with hard rubber heel and toe plates. Side panels are checkered and have small lozenge shaped drop points. Checkering at grip is of point pattern, and has arched ribbon separating top and bottom fields, as well as large flourishes into butt separated from main checkering by ribbon. A gold shield on toe line is engraved "RGG". Grade is not stamped on metal parts of this fine gun, but removal of grip cap reveals SN and "B" stamped five times (5B). Matching splinter ejector forend has fancy shaped horn tip, and knurled button release. Bore diameter: left -.730, right - .730. Bore restrictions: left - .035 (full), right - .017 (mod). PROVENANCE: Lifetime Lefever Arms Collection of Scott Lefever. CONDITION: Very fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain nearly all of a fine quality re-brown, with good definition to pattern. Action retains 40 - 50% orig case hardening color, which was never very strong, considerably silvered overall. Stocks retain 80 - 85% orig hand rubbed oil finish, with numerous light marks and dents, checkering darkened, and has not been re-cut. Checkering on forend is considerably worn, and somewhat dented from normal hand wear. Bores are very good, shiny, with scattered pitting and frosting. Action is a touch loose. Ejectors will not fire. Screw slots show considerable use, one adjustment (?) screw missing from right side of trigger plate. A small chip is missing from front of grip cap. A scarce high grade D.M. Lefever. 50254-3 MGM142 (15,000-25,000)
