SCARCE L.C. SMITH 3E GRADE 16 GA SHOTGUN WITH CHAIN DAMASCUS BBLS.L.C. SMITHGRADE 3209565E16GAMODERN; C&RCal. 16ga. 28" chain Damascus bbls with 2-3/4" Cham., full length matted rib with brass front bead marked "Hunter Arms Co. Fulton, N.Y." Water table with SN and left bbl flat with SN and grade stamping "3E". Double triggers, auto ejectors, auto 3-position safety. Capped full pistol grip buttstock, checkered in 2-point pattern with leaf pattern towards comb and lined HRBP. Splinter forearm with banjo type roll release and horn tip checkered in 5-point pattern. Side locks are lightly scroll engraved with quail in scene on left, ducks in marsh on right and marked "L.C. Smith" on both sides. Bottom of frame and trigger guard bow are lightly scroll engraved. SN at back of trigger guard tang. Bore diameter: left - .652, right - .650. Bore restrictions: left - .014 (MOD), right - .008 (IC). Minimum wall thickness: left - .032, right - .038. Weight: 6 lbs. 13 oz. Drop at comb: 1-11/16", drop at heel: 2-7/8". LOP: 14-3/8". PROVENANCE: Private single owner advanced LeFever Collection. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all of their restored blued finish, slightly toned towards breech and with a couple of light bumps on right side of rib near breech. Receiver retains approximately 50% orig case colors turned silver on bottom of frame at lug, darker and richer in protected areas and on side locks. Trigger guard retains most of its restored blued finish. Forearm iron retains most of its bright orig blued finish. Buttstock and forearm are excellent with minor handling marks and retain most of a restored high gloss finish. Grip cap screw is an old replacement. Bores are excellent. Mechanics are very good. Ejectors are in time. Chain Damascus American built small bores are very much in demand by collectors and are hard to find. 51051-9 JSL (3,000-5,000)
