SUPERB CONDITION BROWNING SUPERPOSED GRADE V SHOTGUN WITH ENGRAVING BY DOYEN WITH TOLEX CASE. BROWNING OU SUPERPOSED GRADE V 6718 20 GA MODERN; C&R (1954) Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 26-1/2" Bbls marked for "mod and full", are fitted with narrow, matted, ventilated rib, and have only Browning St. Louis MO address. Coin finished, small sized action is engraved with nearly full coverage large strap work scroll with acanthus highlights surrounding vignettes of game birds; pheasants on left, ducks on right, and grouse on bottom, in a style which continued through to later production as the "Diana" grade. Engraving on this gun is signed "V Doyen" at bottom rear of pheasant scene. Trigger guard is engraved with pheasant in a tree. Remarkable, wonderfully marbled and lightly figured flesh-toned European walnut long tang round knob buttstock measures 14" over horn Browning embossed buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Field forend matches well. Bore diameter: top -.611, bottom - .612. Bore restrictions: top - .036 (extra full), bottom - .015 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-7/16", drop at comb: 1-5/8". Cast: approx 1/4" off. Weight: 6 lbs. 5 oz. LOP: 14". What is most likely orig, Browning Tolex case, with blued latches and reinforcement, is lined in royal blue cloth, and contains two orig keys in small paper envelope. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, very near to new, with only a few very light handling marks in all factory wood and metal finishes. There is some case wear on right side of butt, and some slight impressed patterning in finish from some type of cloth on left quarter of butt. Mechanically crisp. Case exterior is excellent, with some dots of white paint, and some rubs. Interior cloth is very lightly soiled and shows some compressions. It is hard to imagine finding a finer condition early high grade Browning. 50594-93 mgm89 (8,000-12,000)
