FINE HIGH QUALITY CUSTOM WINCHESTER MODEL 21 WITH EXCELLENT ENGRAVING AND GOLD INLAY BY ARNOLD GRIEBEL (?) WITH EXTRA BARRELS AND CASE.WINCHESTERSXS 21 CUSTOM2780112GAMODERN; C&RCal. 12 ga. 28" Marked "Skeet 1" and "Skeet 2", and 30" bbls marked "mod" and "full". Bbls are fitted with raised, ventilated ribs marked "CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER" in milled out portions. There are 2-3/4" triangles of large scrolling open acanthus and two gold bands at breech ends. Engine turned bbl flats are stamped with SNs, proofs, gauge, and chamber information. Flat side blued action features non-automatic safety and gold-plated selective single trigger. Action is engraved with near full coverage large open scrolling acanthus matching that on bbls, surrounding well done relief gold inlaid game scenes; setter and pointer pointing a trio of pheasant on left, and a fox approaching a trio of quacking mallards flushing from marsh, on right. Bottom of action has oval vignette of California condor flying past cliffs. A ruffed grouse flies across trigger guard bow. Fences are nicely carved in foliate motif. (Consignor states engraving is by Arnold Griebel, however no signature is found. This is not unusual, as Mr. Griebel did not sign much of his work, but the quality of the work on this fine gun could certainly have been by him.) Nicely crotch figured American walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over checkered wood butt, and is carved in 21-B style. Each bbl set is accompanied by its own dedicated braced beavertail ejector forend, marked "1" or "2". BBL set "1" 28": Bore diameter: left -.728, right - .728. Bore restrictions: left - .012 (mod), right - .009 (IC). Drop at heel: 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-9/16". Cast: neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14". BBL SET "2" 30": Bore diameter: left -.729, right - .729. Bore restrictions: left - .034 (full), right - .014 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-7/16", drop at comb: 1-9/16". Cast: neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 15 oz. LOP: 14". Leather case by Abercrombie & Fitch with stitched leather corners has tan canvas outer cover with leather trim. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth. PROVENANCE: Cody Firearms Records Office information confirming both sets of bbls and pistol grip stock with pad, and 21-B carving, with inspection finished August 14, 1953. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining nearly all of its custom finishes on wood and metal, with a number of light crazes and scratches on stocks. Checkering is lightly worn. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent, as protected by its outer cover which is good. Interior is fine. 51058-4 MGM264 (12,500-17,500)
