SPECTACULAR MARLIN C GRADE 1898 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN FACTORY ENGRAVED. MARLIN C GRADE 1898 69315 12GA MODERN; C&R Cal. 12 ga. 30" bbl choked full. Blue finish overall with deluxe extra finish 2-pc checkered walnut stocks and Marlin early hard rubber buttplate. Superbly game scene engraved with a vignette of four water fowl launching over a marsh with water and reeds in the background. Surrounded by a 2-line border with remaining area covered in a foliate arabesque engraving pattern with small scrolls surrounding with a dual rope patterned border fore and aft with a single rope patterned border top and bottom. The right side of the receiver is delicately engraved in a coverage of small scrolls with foliate arabesque patterns around the central screw and a 2-line rope border fore and aft with a single line border top and bottom. The bolt is delicately engraved with two pigeons in flight with slight scroll work fore and aft. Bottom of receiver has a small flower sunburst engraving pattern around the SN with slight matting in the background. Tang has a nice single line border with small scroll work to the rear hammer and forward of stock screw. Two piece deluxe checkered walnut stocks have traditional Marlin S pattern pistol grip and C Grade checkering pattern. A fine piano varnish finish and the early Marlin-inscribed hard rubber buttplate. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine overall, with most blue finish remaining with very slight traces of edge wear on high points of trigger guard, muzzle and extreme high points of the matted rib on receiver. The top tang has suffered some minor finish loss and has become somewhat of a plum coloring. Magazine tube and action bar both show slight finish loss from operation. Stocks are very fine overall with checkering being very sharp and showing no distress. Forearm still retains virtually retains most all of its high polish piano finish. Buttstock is exceptionally fine as well, but high polish piano finish has suffered slight crazing and has evidence of several very small scratches which in no way detract from the firearm. The hammer retains much of its orig vivid case colors with slight wear on right side from operation. Bore and mechanics are bright and crisp.
