SUPERB CONDITION RECENTLY MADE 20 GAUGE JAMES PURDEY SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME SHOTGUN WITH EXTRA BARRELS AND CASE.PURDEYBEST QUALITY SIDELOCK2885320GAMODERN(1986) Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. Two sets of 28" chopper lump bbls, one with heavy chokes, the other more open choked, are only distinguishable by looking at thickness of muzzles or tube numbers. Both sets have narrow, slightly raised, matted ribs, and are engraved "J. Purdey & Sons" "Audley House, South Audley Street, London, England" on tops. Bbl flats were stamped with 1986 London proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs and bbl makers initials "DS". Tube numbers "76267" and "76268" are on open choked bbls, and "76269" and "76270" are on heavy choked bbls. Small frame case hardened Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and sgl non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with very well cut modernized version of Purdey's classic rose and scroll, differing from the usual Lucas pattern in having attenuated scrolls surrounding the bouquets. "J. Purdey & Sons" is in scrolled banner at the front portion of each lockplate, and bottom of action has circular vignette of a flying quail surrounded by "J. PURDEY" and "London, England". Small bow trigger guard has SN on tang. Finely marbled, dark European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/8" over black leather covered pad, and features standard drop points and point pattern checkering at grip, and individual gold letters "W H P Jr" inlet on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release has actioner's initials "GH" on iron. Open Choked BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.615, right - .614. Bore restrictions: left - .010 (mod), right - .008 (IC). Drop at heel: 2-5/16", drop at comb: 1-9/16". Neutral cast. Weight: 5 lbs. 14 oz. LOP: 15-1/8". Tightly choked BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.614, right - .614. Bore restrictions: left - .029 (full), right - .026 (IMod). Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-11/16". Neutral cast. Weight: 5 lbs. 15 oz. LOP: 15-1/8". Orig makers russet leather VC case with stitched leather corners, has brown canvas outer cover with central leather patch embossed "W. H. P. Jr". Case is lined in green cloth and has gold embossed Purdey label in lid along with charge card for this particular gun, with specs for both bbl sets. Case is configured for action and both bbl sets, and contains 2-pc rosewood handled aluminum and brass cleaning rod, J. Purdey marked mop, brush, and jag, rosewood handled turnscrews and striker key, as well as a pair of snap caps, all Purdey marked, along with a square oil bottle engraved "Purdey" with crossed guns, and a small striker bottle with spare strikers. Also included is a high quality leather full length zippered carrying case with owners initials on exterior and Purdey label on interior. PROVENANCE: Orig order sheet with specification chart, specifying "quail" on bottom, and all other specs, with various correspondence signed by Richard Beaumont, with cash slip noting deposit and a final invoice. Also included are some Purdey postcards and catalog with blue cover. CONDITION: Excellent, very near to new with evidence of very little firing. Bbls have essentially all of their blue. There is just a hint of silvering on beads of action, a bit of silvering on thumbpiece, and a few very light handling marks in wood. There are some light scuffs and chipping on leather of pad, with lighter leather showing through at heel and toe. Bores are excellent. Mechanically crisp. Case is excellent. Accessories are essentially new. A new Purdey in this configuration with extra bbls has a current retail of approx $150,000.00. Slipcase is excellent, but dusty. 51806-1 MGM159 (25,000-35,000)
