VERY FINE JAMES PURDEY DELUXE SELF OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME SHOTGUN WITH GOLD INLAID NAME AND FINE NEW CASE AND ACCESSORIES.PURDEYDLX SIDELOCK2315812GAMODERN; C&R(ca 1921) Cal. 12 ga. 2-5/8" Chambers. 27" Chopper lump bbls are gold inlaid in English script with Purdey's famous name and Audley House address on narrow matted game rib. Bottom rib is engraved with Whitworth Steel information. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers, as well as 2-5/8. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs, "CHOKE", and bbl makers initials "AW" (Arthur Wilkes). Tube numbers "56761" and "56762" are on loop. "Made in England" is on splinter. Case hardened, Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, gold plated internals, and dbl triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with very well cut Purdey House style rose bouquets and small scroll. "J. Purdey & Sons" is gold inlaid in English script on each lockplate, as well as bottom of action over "London". Scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on tang. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut straight grip stock measures 14-1/2" over black leather covered pad, and features standard drop points, grip checkering, and a silver oval on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release has actioner's initial "M.T" (noted Purdey actioner Maurice Timbers) on iron. Bore diameter: left -.735, right - .732. Bore restrictions: left - .007 (IC), right - .000 (cyl). Wall thickness: left - .024, right - .026. Drop at heel: 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-11/16". Cast is slightly off. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". Newly made "best quality" oak and leather case with brass corners and circular central medallion on top has canvas outer cover. Case is lined in scarlet cloth with gold embossed Purdey label in lid, and is french fitted to action and a considerable number of high quality accessories including: 3 round oil bottles, 3 walnut handled turnscrews, walnut handled chamber brush, pair of snap caps, walnut and brass cleaning rod, and a striker bottle. There are also four covered compartments with brass knobs, one containing cleaning brushes, another two keys. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain over 95% of an old re-blue, with a few very light marks. Action retains 20 - 30% orig case hardening color, thinned and silvered on fences and beads, browned on bottom. Lockplates retain approx 90% of their color. Stocks retain nearly all of an old rubbed oil finish with numerous light marks and scratches, checkering freshened. Pad is relatively new. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is excellent, with only a few very light marks, as protected by its outer cover, which has some scuffs. Interior cloth is excellent, with a few minor compressions. Straps and handle are good. Accessories are excellent. A fine old Purdey, guns with gold name are quite scarce. 51497-4 MGM84 (20,000-30,000)
