SCARCE 16 GAUGE HOLLAND & HOLLAND "ROYAL" EJECTOR PLAIN FINISH GAME SHOTGUN WITH CASE.HOLLAND & HOLLANDROYAL EJ2713116GAMODERN; C&R(1911) Cal. 16 ga. 2-1/2" Chambers. 28" Dovetailed steel bbls with narrow swamped game rib, are engraved "Holland & Holland" and "98. New Bond Street. London." on tops. Gun is number "2" of a pair. Factory records indicate that it was to be paired with gun "25971", and "2" is gold inlaid on rear portion of rib, top lever, and forend tip. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs. Case hardened scaled down Holland "Royal" sidelock action is stocked to the fences, and features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action and locks are engraved with scroll borders. Factory records indicate "border finish". "Holland & Holland" is on each lockplate, and bottom of action is engraved "Royal" "Hammerless" "Ejector". Steel trigger guard has SN on short tang. Nicely stump figured and lightly marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over ribbed horn buttplate, and features diamond hand with flat top point pattern checkering, drop points, and a gold oval on toe line engraved with a lion rampant holding a wreath. There is a red India rubber covered cheek pad in place. Matching splinter "AB" ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.666, right - .666. Bore restrictions: left - .004 (IC), right - .004 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .021, right - .021. Drop at heel: 2", drop at comb: 1-7/16". Neutral cast. Weight: 6 lbs. 2 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". Brady type leather case with stitched leather corners, is embossed "R. J. D." on top. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth and has an old C. S. Rosson gold embossed black label in lid, and contains a pair of Rosson marked 16 ga. snap caps. PROVENANCE: Copy of factory ledger pages with specs, and shooting reports indicating that the customer was "Frere". CONDITION: Fine as partially refinished. Bbls retain over 90% of a fine quality re-black, engraving softened. Action retains 20 - 30% orig case hardening color, balance a very pleasing silver gray. Lockplates retain most of their orig color, left plate quite strong. Stocks retain remnants of what appears to be their orig finish, checkering worn, especially at height of diamond of grip. There is a 1/2" x 1-1/4" dutchman set into right side of buttstock, quite possibly done by factory during orig stocking, to repair a flaw in the blank. Bores are very fine to excellent, with a few very minor scattered pits, and evidence of old dent removal about 12" back from muzzle on right bbl. Action is slightly loose with forend removed and bbls are somewhat off face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case is good, leather has considerable scuffing and tape marks, as well as spatters of paint. Interior cloth is good with some soiling and compressions. Label is fine. 51677-1 MGM107 (10,000-15,000)
