TRULY EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOM BUILT PAIR OF WEBLEY & SCOTT MODEL 700 SHOTGUNS - A CHARITY AUCTION.WEBLEY & SCOTTSXS 700 CUSTOM98593/9871212GAMODERN; C&RCal. 12 ga. 1) SN 98593. 30" bbls, 2-5/8" chambers, with full length matted top rib, brass front bead and small engraved gold bar near breech. Bbls with approximately 1-1/2" wedge of nicely cut scroll at breech and 3/4" wedge of scroll at muzzles. Finely checkered gold plated double triggers. Automatic ejectors. Automatic safety. Straight grip buttstock is excellent with Circassian walnut, checkered in 2-point pattern with African buffalo horn elongated diamond shaped inserts behind action. Lined African buffalo horn buttplate. Splinter forearm with Curtis type plunger release, checkered in 3-point pattern with fully engraved escutcheon with rounded triangular horn tip. Receiver is fully and fabulously scroll engraved by Mr. Robert Bresnahan. According to an info sheet provided by our consignor, Mr. Bresnahan "hand engraved L.C. Smiths in Fulton, New York" though his name is not found in L.C. Smith The Legend Lives by Houchins. Right side of receiver with 2 Setters in field scene in oval surrounded by full scroll coverage. Left side of receiver with hunter in farm scene shooting a large and well executed pheasant, all surrounded by full coverage scroll. Bottom of receiver is fully scroll engraved with a quarter size circle of landing duck in marsh scene and marked in gold "II of II". Trigger guard bow is scroll engraved at front with gold inlay signature "R.J. Bresnahan" with scroll engraving that extends to back of tang and SN inlaid in gold. Breech balls are fully deep relief scroll engraved and top of action with well cut oak leaf relief engraving. Top tang is fully scroll engraved, as is top lever, with pierced floral pattern at thumb push, inlaid in gold "SAFE" in front of safety. Bore diameter: left - .727, right - .727. Bore restrictions: left - .036 (full), right - .023 (MOD). Minimum wall thickness: left - .038, right - .037 . Weight: 7 lbs. 3 oz. Drop at comb: 1-3/8", drop at heel: 2-1/4". LOP: 14-5/8". 2) SN 98712. 30" bbls, 2-3/4" chambers. Engraving and finish work virtually identical to gun #1 except marked "I of II" in gold on bottom and trigger guard in gold script at bow "E.D. Nunns". Balance of finish - see description of gun #1 above. This gun with stout grip and extra long LOP was custom built for a large man. Bore diameter: left - .726, right - .727. Bore restrictions: left - .038 (full), right - .025 (MOD). Minimum wall thickness: left - .039, right - .037 . Weight: 7 lbs. 7 oz. Drop at comb: 1-5/16", drop at heel: 2-5/8". LOP: 15-3/4". CONDITION: 1) Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all of their orig custom blued finish. Receiver retains 20-30% orig case hardened finish. Trigger guard and trigger plate, which were orig blued, retain approx 70% of their orig blued finish. Triggers with approx 50% gold plating remaining. Buttstock and forearm are excellent and retain approx 80% orig custom hand rubbed finish with light handling marks and minor field use showing. Buttplate is very good with minor wormhole at toe. Top of frame with very minor dried oil staining which should clean to excellent. Bores are excellent, near mirror. Ejectors are in time. Mechanics are excellent. Bbls are on face. 2) Excellent overall. Bbls nearly all of their custom blued finish. Receiver with approx 30% orig case color. Trigger plate and trigger guard as blued when engraved. Trigger plate with approx 80% blued finish. Trigger guard with traces of blue. Stocks are excellent. Buttstock with some finish loss on the right side near grip, light handling marks throughout. Mechanics are crisp. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent, near mirror. A really beautiful custom pair of scallop framed boxlocks. Our consignor will be donating the sale proceeds from these two guns to two great charities- 1/2 of proceeds will be donated to New Mexico Jr. Livestock Foundation and 1/2 to New Mexico 4H Shooting Sports. 51103-1 JSL317 (3,500-5,500)
