CUSTOM WINCHESTER MODEL 21 RIFLE DOUBLE AND SHOTGUN TWO BARREL SET ENGRAVED BY J. LOWE. WINCHESTER 21 6432 20GA MODERN; C&R Cal 20 ga & 30-40 Krag. Beautiful Model 21 with 28" 20 ga bbls that have a Simmons ventilated rib that has twin beads. Mounted with custom American walnut by Paul Jaeger with beavertail forearm & capped pistol grip stock with leather covered pad. Receiver has single selective trigger and non-automatic safety with ejectors. Accompanied by a second set of 24-1/2" mono-bloc bbls made by Gary Styles, that have concave smooth rib & pedestal front sight that has gold bead caterpillar insert and 1/4 rib with fixed V-notch rear sight. The rib is grooved for scope rings containing a set of Talley rings with a Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5X scope. These bbls also have ejectors and have been relined to 30-40 Krag rifle caliber. This set of bbls also has a beavertail forearm. Receiver is beautifully engraved by J. Lowe and signed on the trigger plate with the date "2014". Engraving is of outstanding Winchester grade 5 patterns consisting of a bird dog on point on the left side and another on the right side with the large vignette of 2 pheasants on the floor plate. Trigger bow has the small vignette of a running buck deer. All the engraving is surrounded by very fine, extremely well executed foliate arabesque patterns with relief engraved oak leaves on the fences. Hinge pin is engraved on each end and surrounded by a large rosette. Opening lever is engraved to match with a beautiful fan pattern on the pivot. The metal grip cap is beautifully relief engraved in oak leaf & acorn patterns. Toe of the buttstock is inlaid with a recessed swivel base which corresponds to a stalking swivel base on bottom of the rifle bbls. Both sets of bbls are identically engraved with matching foliate arabesque patterns over the chamber areas and on the scope rings. The forend iron is also matching engraved. Left rifle bbl, over the chamber area is engraved "30-40 Krag". Shotgun bbls appear to have started life as full & modified and are now both improved cylinder choke. The shotgun bbls & forearm are matching numbered to the receiver. Rifle bbls are unnumbered however the forend iron on the rifle bbls is numbered "4928". Dimensions: 20 ga bbls: bore diameter: left- .618 right- .618. Bore restrictions: left- .004 (IC), right- .005 (IC). Wall thickness: left- .025, right- .021. Drop at heel: 1-15/16", Drop at comb: 1-5/16". Weight: 7 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-3/8" over black leather covered pad. Rifle bbls weight without scope: 10 lbs. 8 oz. All together an extraordinarily beautiful set with higher quality engraving than usually found on factory engraved Model 21s. PROVENANCE: James E. Fender Collection. He acquired the shotgun in June 1964, had it restocked in 1974 and had the rifle bbls made in 1996. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine, numbers matching as noted above. Overall retains about 99% crisp custom finish to both metal & wood. Wood is sound with a few very minor nicks in the surface. Bright shiny bores and crisp mechanics.
