RARE WINCHESTER FIRST MODEL 1890 PUMP ACTION RIFLE.WINCHESTER1890651922SHORTCal 22 Short. Standard rifle with 24-3/8" tapered oct bbl, 3/4 magazine, 1/2 nickel front sight & fixed rear sight. Receiver & buttplate are color case hardened. Mounted with uncheckered straight grain American walnut with small, round, ribbed forearm & straight stock with crescent buttplate. The Model 1890 was Winchesters first slide action repeating rifle which was extremely well received by the buying public market with about 849,000 produced in the period 1890-1932. It was extremely popular for shooting galleries and trick shot artists. Only about 15,000 were produced as first model with solid frames. Very few of these early Model 1890 rifles survive today in any condition with those retaining high orig finish extraordinarily rare. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain 98-99% strong orig finish with only faint sharp edge wear and a couple of small nicks. Receiver retains about 98% orig case colors, strong & bright on the left side, over the top and bottom with the right side lightly faded. Top tang retains faded case colors, strong & bright around the hammer slot. Bottom tang also retains faded case colors. Buttplate retains about 90% faded case colors. Wood is sound showing wear around the wrist, a few small nicks & scratches and retains about 90% orig finish on the buttstock and about 98% orig varnish on the forearm.
