EARLY WINCHESTER MODEL 1912 16 GA SHOTGUN PERSONALLY OWNED AND USED BY ERNEST HEMINGWAYWINCHESTERMODEL 124439116MODERN; C&RCal. 16 ga. 26" bbl. 2-3/4" chambers. Chokes marked Full though measure Imp. Cyl. Solid rib with red plastic front bead. Buttstock checkered in two-point pattern with capped pistol grip and 13-5/8" LOP over red Winchester white lined waffle pad. Forearm checkered in elongated diamond pattern. The consignor received this gun as a personal gift from Ernest Hemingway's oldest son, Jack Hemingway in 1988 when our consignor was helping Jack Hemingway move out of his home after the loss of his first wife in Ketchum, ID. Accompanying this gun is a newspaper article from the Idaho Statesman dated Dec. 4, 2000 detailing Jack Hemingway's life and passing. Article also chronicles Jack's friendship with the consignor, generosity in giving away guns, fly fishing rods, books, etc. though this gun is not specifically mentioned in the article. Also accompanying this gun is a 2 page letter describing the relationship our consignor had with Mr. Hemingway and his family. This M12 is illustrated in the second edition of the book "Hemingway's Guns" as being used as a guest gun by Gary Cooper and Eva Gardner. Being sold elsewhere in this auction is a Browning BPR-22 cal rifle owned by Jack Hemingway, consigned by the same family. CONDITION: Good. Metal parts retain about half of their orig finish with some staining and beginning light erosion. Buttstock and forearm are good with numerous hunting bumps and scratches, retaining about half of their orig finish. Bore is very good with minor orange peel.
