BADEN 109TH LIFE GUARD REGIMENT OFFICER’S HELMET MODEL 1897 (CIRCA 1915).

World War I era black lacquered felt body with fine silver and gilt metal trim. Lacquered body has good form and stitching. Exterior lacquer shows excellent matte finish. Front and back visors have small amount of crazing. Visor material appears to be fiber. Interior with sweat leather and green silk liner. Sweat leather shows use and wear. Silk headliner is genuine but possibly replaced at a later time. Colored interior visors. Body has an unusually large and flat silver star of Louis with red enameled cross and center field. Star may be a war-time expedient. Baden Dragon has vaulted crown but no frosting. Silvered officer style spike base and smooth spike. Gold stars retaining spike to helmet body. Gold chin scales with silver rosettes. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Helmet body excellent with mild matte finish due to age. Interior of helmet shows use with slight discoloration to sweat leather and silk headliner. 51585-14 RT (4,500-6,500)
