PRUSSIAN 2ND KURASSIER REGIMENT OFFICER'S HELMET MODEL 1889-1899.

Beautiful nickled steel "Lobster Tail" officers helmet with Gilt trim. Helmet body in excellent condition and has good form. Body has only minor blemishes but no dents or damage to exterior finish. No extra holes in helmet body. Large rounded gold chin scales with cloverleaf rosettes over Reichs and Prussian 2 piece officer cockades. Helmet interior has sweat leather and unusual yellow cloth headliner. The headliner is an original period piece but appears to have been replaced at a later time. This is evidenced by the fact that it does not exactly fit the interior. Inner back visor covered with black velvet. Inner front visor covered with green leather. Fine fire gilded frontplate is the Prussian Heraldic eagle with the banner on the lower portion reading "Hohenfriedburg – 4 Juni 1745". Frontplate is not perfectly contoured to the helmet body suggesting it may have been changed. Kurassier style gilt crossed spike base with fluted silver spike Kurassier officer spike. Very rare unit and helmet. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Excellent condition inside and out. High quality fire gilt frontplate and metal trim. Helmet body is bright with only age related toning to finish. Interior has been refurbished and shows wear. 51585-6 RT (4,000-8,000)
