SCARCE WALTHER P38, MOD. HP, DOUBLE ACTION PISTOL. WALTHER HP 2603 9MM MODERN; C&R Cal. 9mm. Walther Mod HP in Cal 9mm, double action, with plastic grips. Standard configuration P38 with 5" bbl having drift adjustable front sight and fixed red highlighted rear sight. Left side of slide marked with the usual Walther banner followed by 2-line address that includes "Cal. 9 m/m" and suffixed by "Mod. HP". Safety marked with a white highlighted "S" and red highlighted "F". The Eagle/N marking on right side of slide, right side of bbl and right side of frame. SN under bbl is "2512", SN on slide is "2258" (internally marked by firing pin housing), SN on right side of frame above trigger guard is "2603", with the last three digits "603" repeated on the locking block. Fitted with black plastic checkered grips, left panel round recessed for the lanyard ring, each internally marked with four encircled codings. Mag marked "35" at bottom of spine. Major and minor components with original high polish salt blue, locking block in the white, the mag body having been redipped. Although mismatched it is still a scarce gun whose SN was recorded on pg 99 of Warren Buxton's "The P.39 Pistol, Volume I", and falls within a group of similar pistols, including those with a red painted rear sight. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Approximately 90% bright original rust blue with expected sharp edge wear and thinning of the front strap, comparable condition grips. Mag with oxidative disturbance on each side under the redip. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Single action cocking, engages but not reliably. 51568-39 LMA (1,000-2,000)
