FANTASTIC BRITISH R.S.A.F. ENFIELD .303 SMLE NO. 4 MK I PRE-PRODUCTION TRIALS RIFLE.BRITISHSMLE NO. 4 MK IEX45303MODERN; C&RCal. .303. British. 25.2" bbl. This rifle is described in Skennerton's reference, pg 221, the pre-production trials No. 4 rifle manufactured between 1930-1931. It is immediately recognizable from the fabricated magazine cut off and also exhibits a transverse screw in rounded button cocking piece. Also incorporates a waisted sight protector. Typical small sling swivel. SN visible on top of receiver behind bolt handle and also on top of front bbl band. Grooved hand guard. Formerly in the Kenyan Royal Military Academy Museum, the museum catalog number "P19" is at toe of the butt. Marked with British nitro proofs on bbl and top of receiver band. Bbl is date "30". Brass buttplate and butt disc marked "No IV. MK. I. EXP." with SN "EXP. 45". One of its mates is in the Pattern Room Collection in England. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of World Renowned British Rifle Collector Robert W. Faris. CONDITION: Extremely fine to near excellent orig blued finish on metal parts. Thinning at the outer edge of the magazine cut off and along high edges at top of front sight and forward most sling band. Brass buttplate a pleasing dark patina. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Wood is also extremely fine with numerous minor dings and bruises, yet still very attractive. 51608-16 JWK (10,000-15,000)
