WINCHESTER THIRD MODEL 1873 RIFLE WITH SET TRIGGER, ONCE THE PROPERTY OF DAVID CARRADINE.WINCHESTER1873485443B44 WCFCal. .44 WCF. Blue finish with 24-1/4" rnd bbl, half nickel front sight with screw and slightly altered semi-buckhorn rear sight. Top of bbl has usual Winchester roll marking forward of rear sight and caliber marking over chamber area. Receiver has single set trigger. Mounted with nicely figured, uncheckered American walnut with straight grip and crescent steel buttplate with trap. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum email which identifies this rifle in caliber 44 with round bbl & set trigger, received into and shipped from the warehouse 12-11-1897 to Order #24902. Also accompanied by a notarized statement dated Aug. 23, 2010, from Robert Carradine, brother of David Carradine, certifying that "This Model '73 Winchester, serial number 485443B, was acquired by David while we were on location for the filming of 'The Long Riders' in 1979. The unusual set-trigger configuration of this rifle was especially intriguing to him." From the private collection of the late actor, David Carradine. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain an even, smooth, blue/brown patina with strong blue in sheltered areas. Left side of bbl, just below magazine band and on magazine tube, have adjacent dings with magazine tube having been repaired. Receiver retains about 60% thinning orig blue with balance a blue/gray patina. Lever & hammer retain traces of faded case colors. Stock has a short crack back of top tang and a repaired gouge near the toe, otherwise wood is sound with light handling & use marks and retains a smooth hand worn patina. Mechanics are crisp, strong bright bore with scattered fine pitting. 51393-1 TEP (3,500-5,500)
