WONDERFUL WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 SINGLE SHOT RIFLE WITH NUMBER 4 BARREL 40-90 BALLARD CALIBER CASE COLOR RECEIVERWINCHESTER18854448540-90 BALLARDCal. 40-90 Ballard. 32" NO. 4 oct bbl. Knife blade front sight. Sporting rear sight. Blue and case color finish. Straight grain American walnut stocks with nickeled crescent buttplate. Accompanying this rifle is a Cody Firearms Record Office email that confirms cal., bbl weight and length showing shipment on 1/5/1891, Order #23339. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 80-90% blue finish that has slightly dulled with high point wear. Sights are very good. Bbl markings are sharp and clear. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains 50%-60% case color finish that is vivid on the upper tang behind the hammer. Hammer shows traces of case color. Lever is a silver gray patina with case color vivid in protected areas. Tang marking is sharp and clear. Stocks are very fine, full size and retain nearly all of the varnish finish. Stocks show light handling marks and scratches overall with a light coat of shellac. Wrist of stock on both sides have loading data scratched into the wrist. Buttplate is nickel finish with evidence of light cleaning. Forend has small crack on left side at the breech. A wonderful example of a Winchester Model 1885 Hi-Wall Rifle in far above average condition whose consignor is an avid target shooter and states that this was the most accurate rifle in his collection. 51724-6 TEP (4,500-5,000)
