RARE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 HIGH WALL LEVER ACTION RIFLE IN A RARE CALIBER.WINCHESTER18851639845EXPCal 45 Express (45-125). Standard grade rifle with 30" #4 weight oct bbl, half nickel front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Mounted with uncheckered, slab sawed American walnut with black insert Schnable tip forearm & straight stock with crescent buttplate. Receiver has single-set trigger. This rifle was produced in about 1886, the first year this caliber was offered as a special order. This caliber is a very powerful black powder cartridge but lasted only a few years and was supplanted by the 45-90 and 45-70 calibers which performed identically or better out of shorter cases with less powder. Accompanied by 20 rounds of custom loaded ammunition. CONDITION: Good to very good. No orig finish remains with the bbl being a thin gray/brown patina. Receiver is a dark brown patina with a few spots of scattered fine pitting. Buttstock has a crack down the center around the tangs and the forearm a crack on each side at the frame along with a few minor nicks & dings and retains an old restored finish. Set trigger needs adjusting otherwise mechanics are fine, dark bore with sharp rifling and scattered pitting. Ammunition is fine. 51567-9 JRL (2,500-3,500)
