RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE WITH EXTRA HEAVY BARREL.WINCHESTER18863023840/82ESACal 40-82. Standard grade rifle with 26" extra heavy oct bbl that measures 1" across the flats at the muzzle. It has full magazine with ivory bead combination front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight & Lyman tang sight with combination aperture. Mounted with uncheckered, extra finish, nicely figured, slab sawed American walnut with straight stock & crescent buttplate. Receiver has single set trigger. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter that identifies this rifle in cal 40-82 with extra heavy oct bbl & set trigger, received in warehouse June 14, 1889 and shipped same day to order number 21309. Few extra heavy rifles were ever ordered simply because of the weight of carrying them into the field. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl retains about 75-80% thinning orig blue showing sharp edge wear & some light surface etching with spots of pitting toward the muzzle. Magazine tube also retains about 85% orig blue with a couple spots of pitting. Receiver shows traces of case colors, being mostly turned silver with surface etching on the left side & bottom, lightly pitted on right side. Wood is sound showing moderate wear with about 60-70% orig finish on buttstock. Mechanics are fine, worn bore with moderate to heavy pitting. 51622-2 JRL (5,000-7,000)
