Bolt is engraved "C. Chobert Axg-a-Paris, Lafayette 16", which is probably an agents mark. CONDITION: Good to very good for this model. Unfortunately this carbine has suffered from poor storage, never-the-less it is extremely collectable. Bbl shows a gray/brown patina overall with some heavy erosion at the muzzle and at the middle bbl band. Sights are good. Rear sight is marked 1873 as noted. Bbl markings are legible. Bbl band and forend cap are heavily eroded. Bore bright with clear rifling. Receiver shows a generous amount of vivid case color on the left side near the saddle ring, with the balance showing heavy erosion especially at the carry point. Bolt shows considerable orig blue, agent mark is sharp. Hammer and lever are a gray/brown patina, lever has heavy erosion on right side. Stocks are good, full sized, with black oil staining at the wrist and buttplate tang. Buttplate is a silver/gray patina with a hint of case color remaining in the middle and heavy erosion at the heel and toe. Forend also has dark oil stain at the receiver and bbl band. Sling swivel is frozen. One of the rarest carbines in the Winchester line. 86 Winchester carbines with full length forends are very rare. Carbine number 20694 is shown on pg 333 of "The Winchester Book" by George Madis. Although this carbine has unfortunately suffered from poor storage it remains a very desirable collectable Winchester. 51701-1 TEP (4,500-5,500)
