RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 TRAPPER CARBINE WITH 14" BARREL.WINCHESTER1892 TRAPPER CARBINE32525844WCFMODERN; C&RCal 44 WCF (44-40). Standard grade carbine with 14" bbl, full magazine, German silver blade front sight in a square base and carbine ladder rear sight. Left side of receiver has a staple & ring. Mounted with uncheckered gum wood with straight stock & carbine buttplate. Forearm is 7-13/16" long which is standard on short barreled Trapper Carbines. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter which identifies this carbine in caliber 44 with 14" bbl, received in the warehouse on Feb 15, 1906 and shipped Feb 23, 1906 to order number 42837 with 1,106 other arms. Given the large number of items in this order it substantiates the general knowledge that the majority of these Trapper Carbines were sold and shipped to South & Central America. Those few items which have returned to the U.S. are generally in poor condition having seen hard & continuous service in the jungles of South & Central America. Also accompanied by a Dept of the Treasury letter of exemption specifically identifying this carbine by SN as having removed it from Class III controls and designating it as a Curio or Relic. CONDITION: Good. No orig finish remains with the metal being an overall cleaned gray/brown patina. Left side of receiver has a streak of light blood pitting with a few scratches and another spot of pitting on the bottom. Stock has a hairline back of the top tang and may be an old replacement, otherwise is sound with nicks, dings & scratches and shows about 80% of an old refinish. Mechanics are crisp, strong bore with good shine and scattered pitting. 51379-18 JRL (3,000-4,000)
