COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY RICHARD-MASON CARTRIDGE CONVERSION REVOLVER WITH IVORY GRIPS AND PERIOD SLIM JIM HOLSTERCOLT1860 CONVERSION19584844 COLTESACal. 44 Colt. 8" bbl. Full nickel finish with 1-pc ivory grip. Bbl shows correct 1-line Colt address. SN matches on bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, arbor, loading gate and cyl.Wedge is unnumbered. Grip was not removed. Frame shows 2-line patent mark on left side. Rear flat of trigger guard on left is stamped 44CAL. Cyl is marked Colt's patent and shows correct Naval engagement scene. Holster is of the Slim Jim style with border decoration and deep recurve A+ throat. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains 40-50% of the orig nickel finish with some marring and scratching overall especially toward the muzzle, possibly caused by use tightening wire. Bbl dress is sharp. SN is clear. Bore is frosty with clear rifling. Frame retains 80-90% nickel finish with some flaking on the recoil shield. Backstrap shows traces of nickel with the balance being a smooth gray brown patina. Trigger guard also shows traces of nickel with the balance a mustard yellow patina. SNs are clear. Backstrap SN is slightly washed out. Cyl retains 80% nickel with a very good cyl scene and a slight drag mark. Hammer shows traces of case color at the base. Trigger shows a hint of blue. Ivory grips are very good with no missing pieces. Holster is very good with some crazing to the finish. Toe plug is intact. Stitching is intact. A very nice rig. These revolvers saw extensive service in the post-Civil War West when they were much less expensive than the new Model 1873 Single Action Army. 51624-1 TEP (4,000-6,000)
