RARE AND DESIRABLE L.C. SMITH TRAP GRADE 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN FACTORY TWO BARREL SET.L.C. SMITHTRAPRE12741812GAMODERN; C&RCal. 12 ga. 32" bbls, single front bead, concave matted rib. 2-3/4" chambers, Full & Full chokes. Second set - 28" bbls, single front bead, concave matted rib. CYL & MOD chokes. Both sets of bbls marked "TRAP GRADE" and have matching splinter forends with banjo type releases. Trap grade ejector, receiver with trap shooting scene on left lockplate and hunting scene on right lockplate. Single Miller trigger. Capped pistol grip Monte Carlo style buttstock. Hard rubber buttplate 1/2" thick, marked "THE L.C. SMITH TRAP GUN". LOP 13-5/8" from single trigger in rear position, DAC 1", DAH 2". 3-position safety. Accompanied by factory letter which describes the gun being orig ordered with both sets of bbls. It was finished on December 13, 1929. According to the records, only 34 Trap Grades were shipped with a second set of factory bbls. PROVENANCE: The L.C. Smith Collection of Gerald Basham. CONDITION: Excellent. This rare factory two barrel set has remained in very nice mostly orig condition. 32" bbls retain most of orig blue which is thinning in spots, no dings or dents. Bores are bright and unpitted. 28" bbls retain majority of blue, thinning at muzzles, assorted handling marks from use, thinning slightly at breeches. Once again 2nd bbls are undented and bores are bright and unpitted. Each set of bbls has its correct matching forend, second forend marked "2" on underside. Receiver is nice, areas of color in protected areas. Slight areas of oxidation on breech balls. Engraving is sharp. Screws are very clean. Trigger bow retains most of its orig bright blue. Both forends and buttstock remain in very nice condition with assorted minor handling marks from use. May have at one time had finish added. All checkering is prominent. All wood is sound, fits nicely and with no typical cracks. This gun is tight and functions crisply, ejectors are strong. Top lever is to the right. This rare gun is a real survivor which remains in very nice condition. 51449-1 TJW (1,250-2,000)
