EARLY LEFEVER ARMS CO. E GRADE SHOTGUN. LEFEVER E GRADE 9706 12GA Cal. 12ga. 28" twist bbls (reduced to this length) with 2-7/8" Cham. (likely for brass cartridges), full length Damascus top rib marked "LeFever Arms Co. Makers and Patentees Syracuse, N.Y." Front bead is missing. Water table marked with SN and grade designation "E". Double triggers, extractors, auto safety. Capped full pistol grip buttstock checkered in 2-point pattern with fiddleback figure over orig checkered horn buttplate. Push button splinter forearm checkered in 2-point pattern with horn tip. Receiver is chain link border engraved and marked "LeFever Arms Co." on both sides. Pivot opener top lever and cocking indicators. Full length trigger guard tang as is typically seen on these early cocking rod LeFever's. Bore diameter: left - .760, right - .770. Bore restrictions: left - .002 (IC), right - .003 (IC). Minimum wall thickness: left - .040, right - .030 . Weight: 7 lbs. 15 oz. Drop at comb: 1-9/16", drop at heel: 3". LOP: 13-7/8". PROVENANCE: Private single owner advanced LeFever Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Receiver retains hints of muted case color, appears untouched and uncleaned since new. Bbls are good retaining 70-80% of their orig twist pattern. Bores are fair with scattered light pitting throughout. Stocks are near excellent retaining what appears to be their orig varnish with scattered scratches and handling marks throughout. Checkering is very good and filled in. Buttplate is good with a couple of worm holes and checkering has softened with some losses. Mechanics are very good. Top lever is a touch loose. 51496-1 JSL (500-1,000)
