RARE CASED SET OF THE FIALA MODEL 1920 SINGLE SHOT REPEATING COMBINATION PISTOL.FIALAMODEL 192019522LRMODERN; C&RCal 22 LR. Rare complete cased set of the Model 1920 pistol which includes the pistol receiver which is mounted with smooth 2-pc walnut grips. It has installed a 7-1/2" tapered rnd bbl with adjustable rear sight. Left front side of the frame has the Fiala Arms name and trademark with the model number on the right front and the company name & address on the right rear. Right rear also shows "PATENTS PENDING". Backstrap is dovetailed for the accompanying buttstock. Accompanied by an orig, purple velvet lined, black leatherette trunk case with handle & brass fittings. Interior is fitted for the pistol, an uncheckered, matching numbered walnut buttstock with silver-plated dovetailed brass attaching lug, a 20" carbine bbl with smooth rnd forearm and a 3" bbl, matching numbered with knurled exposed area. Case also contains 2 spare sights apparently to be used with the carbine bbl and a spare combination front sight, along with 2 functioning keys. Inside the lid has a diagonal ribbon embossed in gold "FIALA ARMS COMPANY, INC. / NEW YORK". The design of this pistol is unique in that it has the appearance of what we know today as a semi-automatic. However it is unique in that the slide must be manually retracted which ejects the empty cartridge case and manually returned to battery which loads a fresh cartridge from the magazine. From the outside appearance it is fairly apparent that several well known semi-auto pistols owe their design to this pistol, including Hi-Standard & the Colt Woodsman. Complete case sets are quite rare. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Pistol is fine with the frame & slide showing about 65-70% strong orig blue with the front & backstraps mostly gray patina, 7-1/2" bbl retains 99% plus orig blue, 20" bbl retains about 99% blue and the 3" bbl shows muzzle end wear. All 3 bbls have bright shiny bores. Buttstock is sound and retains virtually all of a fine restored finish. The attaching lug retains about 85% orig silver that has tarnished to dark patina. Case has a few nicks & scratches but is basically sound. Interior is lightly faded and soiled but completely intact. Spare sights are fine. 51517-76 JRL (5,000-8,000)
