OLDENBURG 91ST INFANTRY REGIMENT RESERVE OFFICER'S HELMET MODEL 1897.

Prussian Line eagle without banner with the silver star and arms of Oldenburg on the eagle's breast. Small silver reserve cross under star with banner "Mitt Gott fur Furst und Vater Land". This is quite unusual but is 100% original to helmet. Black lacquered leather bodied helmet with good form and firm stitching. Interior has sweat leather and silk head liner. Sweat leather shrunken due to age and heat and has one small tear. Visors colored. No extra holes in helmet body. Exterior finish excellent throughout with minor crazing. Metal trim shows equal patina throughout. Officer spike and base with star retainers. Flat chinscales with officer's Reichs and Oldenburg cockades. Oldenburg star highly profiled with fine detail. Frontplate retains 80% of fire gilding. Rare and all original helmet. SIZE: PROVENANCE: Robert H. Haskell, III Estate Collection, James D. Julia, Inc., sold March 2015; The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Overall very good. Exterior finish shows small areas of crazing and matte finish that are all age related. Sweat leather shows heat damage. 51586-22 RT (2,400-3,500)
