FINE CIVIL WAR SMITH CARBINEPOULTNEY & TRIMBLESMITH CARBINE1253550Cal. 50. About 30,000 of these well made carbines were made for the Civil War, this is a very nice example retaining much of its orig finish that conforms to the standard configuration of this arm with 21-5/8" part oct bbl. This gun is properly iron mounted, case colored & blued. On the left side of breech is marked "ADDRESS/POULTNEY&TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE, U.S.A." and "SMITH'S PATENT/JUNE 23 1857″ and "MANUFACTURED BY/AM'N M'CH'N WKS/SPRINGFIELD MASS". CONDITION: Overall fine condition, bbl retaining 25% thinning orig blue which has turned a mottled plum with fine bore and crisp bright rifling, mechanically fine. Case colored frame and hammer exhibit about 50% muted case colors with remainder mottled silver/brown. Trigger guard, breech band and buttstock ferrule retain over 50% bright orig blue. Stocks are fine overall, with some raised grain, no inspector cartouches. 31377-18 JS (1,500-2,500)
