REMINGTON CIVIL WAR ERA PERCUSSION CONVERSION OF A FLINTLOCK MUSKET.REMINGTONM1858NSN690Cal. 69. 42" rnd bbl. This is a scarce Remington conversion utilizing Maynard Tape Priming System. Originally a Model 1816 flintlock musket was converted to percussion by adding a new breechblock and new Remington lockplate marked on tail "REMINGTON'S / ILION N.Y. / 1858 / U.S.". Bbl has matching 1858 date, the year of the conversion. The bbl has the New Jersey "NJ" surcharge on left side of breech. CONDITION: Very good overall. Appears all orig and matching. Mechanically functional, including the Maynard Tape System with good rifling present in bore. Stock is sound with scattered dings, dents and small cosmetic defects. There is a pair of indiscernible initials carved in bottom of stock forward of trigger guard. 51389-9 JS (1,500-2,500)
