EXTRA-FINE RARE GROUP OF CONFEDERATE CURRENCY CAPTURED BY AN AIDE TO JOSHUA CHAMBERLAIN.This grouping ranges 1861 to 1864 and all notes are quite crisp with exception of T-33 (1861 green $5). Consignor states "This collection of Confederate notes was "captured" by a relative, who was an executive officer to Joshua Chamberlain, for the purpose of documenting the "propaganda" value of the currency's contribution to the Confederate war effort (political officers, pictures of state capitols, actual drawings of artillery units and navy ships) and there are numerous examples of "military issues" used by Confederate quartermasters to pay for equipment and supplies in the field". SIZE: PROVENANCE: From direct Maine family descent. CONDITION: All notes are well trimmed with good borders as noted. Are mostly crisp and close to uncirculated on most other than the Type 33 which is a fine circulated note with good strong signatures and SNs like the other notes.
