EXCEPTIONAL LOT OF TWO COLT HANDGUNS. COLT WOODSMAN TARGET 97459 22LR MODERN; C&R Cal. .22 LR. 6-5/8" bbl, full blue finish, 2-pc checkered walnut grips without medallions. Top of bbl shows 2-line Colt address and patent mark, "The Woodsman" is marked on left side of bbl lug. Colt cal designation followed by a Rampant Colt logo is marked on left side of frame. SN is stamped on the forestrap. Front sight is adjustable for elevation. Rear sight is adjustable for windage. Bottom of mag is marked "Colt Woodsman" over "Cal. 22 L.R." Pistol is housed in a maroon colored Colt box with an end label confirming model and cal. There is a label on top noting that the pistol is fitted with a new mainspring housing allowing use of high speed cartridges. Bottom of box has SN of pistol written in pencil. Box contains Shooting suggestions and Colt Warranty card, also included is a test target numbered to this pistol and a cleaning brush. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl, frame, and slide all retain 98% of the blue finish that has some slight muzzle wear and minuscule scratches overall. Markings are sharp. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Sights are fine. *NOTE* Frame markings have been filled with white machinist ink to make them more legible. Mag retains nearly all of the blue with only slight scratching overall. Box is fine with only edge wear on the lid, "Target" in label is half missing. Paperwork is clean with no oil stains. COLT NEW SERVICE ARMY MODEL 1909 DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER, U.S. ISSUE. COLT 1909 49428 45 LC MODERN; C&R Cal. .45 LC. 5-1/2" bbl, full blue finish, 2-pc plain walnut grips, lanyard ring on butt. Top of bbl shows 2-line Colt address and patent mark. Left side of bbl shows model and cal. SN is stamped on the frame in the crane mortise, and on the crane opposite the mortise. Last 4 digits of the SN appear on the rear face of the cyl latch. SN is also written in pencil on the inside of both grips. Bottom of bbl is marked "United States Property", "P" over "R.A.C." is stamped on the bottom of the bbl at the breech, these are the initials of the government inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. R.A.C. is also seen on the rear face of the cyl, on the right rear of the frame above the grips and on the butt of each grip. There is also an inspectors cartouche stamped on the upper right side of the frame next to the hammer. PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95% bright blue finish overall with only slight muzzle wear, a few slight scratches, and very sharp markings. Bore is a bit frosty with very strong rifling. Frame also retains 95% bright blue finish with a clear Rampant Colt mark on the left rear side plate. All frame markings are sharp and clear. Cyl retains 90% bright blue finish with slight high point wear and a very small drag mark around the rear periphery. Flutes show a strong blueberry color. Chambers are clean. Hammer shows a generous amount of fire blue on the top and rear surface. Trigger shows generous traces of fire blue overall. Grips are fine, with very few minuscule handling marks. An opportunity to obtain a very fine Army Model 1909 Colt New Service revolver in a condition that is hard to improve upon. 51517-117 TEP (4,000-7,000)
