BADEN DRAGOON REGIMENTS 20, 21 AND 22 RESERVE OFFICER'S HELMET MODEL 1897.

Early style black lacquered leather helmet with silver metal trim and gold chinscales. Helmet has excellent form and firm stitching. Squared front visor. Interior has officer sweat leather and silk head liner. Inner visors are colored. Two extra holes behind frontplate which occurred when the active plate was changed for the reserve plate. Frontplate is a silver frosted Baden Griffen with a Gold Reserve cross on breast. Crown over griffin's head is not voided. The banner lettering is vacant as is proper for a Reserve officer. Cross spike base and smooth officer spike. Star retainers are gold. Silver rosettes over gold rounded chinscales. SIZE: PROVENANCE: Helmut Weitze Certificate of Authenticity; The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Very good overall. Helmet shows genuine use. Exterior lacquer has mild pits and crazes but no lacquer loss. Interior liner shows extensive wear and is dirty. Back visor has dried polish on edge of back spine. 51586-47 RT (1,750-2,250)
