BAVARIAN INFANTRY RESERVE OFFICER'S HELMET MODEL 1897 WITH FIELD COVER.

Black lacquered leather body with gilt brass trim. Leather body has excellent form and firm stitching. Overall finish to helmet is mildly crazed and matte. Interior has sweat leather and silk head liner. Visors colored. No extra holes in body. Frontplate is the Royal Bavarian emblem in gilt with a silver reserve cross on chest. Crossed spike base with 3 stars (which is appropriate for Bavaria). Spike base unscrews at bottom to help when transporting it. Fluted spike removable for plume. Gilt brass chinscales and Reichs and Bavarian cockades. Field cover is the standard officer style in gray/green cloth with slip retainers on front and back. Field cover in excellent condition with no discoloration or tears. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Helmet is very good plus and has not been cleaned or polished. Interior in excellent condition. Field cover in excellent condition. 51586-60 RT (1,500-2,500)
