WUERTTEMBERG 26TH DRAGOON REGIMENT NCO HELMET MODEL 1895.

Black lacquered leather helmet body with silver trim and gold chinscales. Leather body has good form and firm stitching. Finish matte with numerous small scratches on back of bell. Interior has black flat tabbed NCO style lining. Inner visors plain. No regimental markings. Frontplate is the silver Royal Wuerttemberg emblem on which is placed the silver guard star of the House of Wuerttemberg. Officer's style crossed spike base and smooth spike which is held in by flat silver dome retainers. Gold rounded chinscales on rosettes. Officer's style Reichs and Wuerttemberg cockades. Star on front of Wuerttemberg emblem has a different color than the rest of the metalwork. This emblem was introduced after 1900 and was probably attached to the helmet independently. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Overall good inside and out. Silvering on top of spike is very weak showing brass color underneath. Liner is complete but tabs are dry. 51586-42 RT (1,500-2,000)
