78TH HANOVERIAN INFANTRY REGIMENT ENLISTED MAN'S HELMET MODEL 1895.

Black lacquered leather helmet body with brass trim. Helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. Mild surface crazing to finish. Interior has enlisted man's tab liner with draw string still attached. Visors uncolored. Marked on back panel "IR78" and "1904". Also stamped with maker's name inside helmet bell. No extra holes. Frontplate is a Prussian heraldic eagle but with a banner "Waterloo" above the eagle's neck. Helmet plate is made of single stamping. One retention loop on back of eagle has broken off. All brass metal trim. Leather chin strap on M91 posts. Reichs and Prussian enlisted style cockades. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Excellent inside and out. Profusely marked and dated. 51586-69 RT (1,000-2,000)
