PRUSSIAN 159TH INFANTRY REGIMENT ENLISTED MAN'S HELMET MODEL 1895 WITH GREEN OFFICER CLOTH COVER.

Black leather helmet has good form and firm stitching. Exterior leather is very crazed due to age. Interior has leather enlisted style tab liner that is shrunken and torn with age. Inside bell has hand painted in white "J.R. 159/1907/II B". Brass metal trim has not been cleaned or polished and shows discoloration due to age. Complete with original leather chin strap and Reichs and Prussian cockades. Gray/green cloth field cover is officer quality and has slip retainers on front and back visor. Front visor stamped "DRP" on inside. Cloth cover has cuts on either side of field cover to allow chip strap or chinscales to come through. This was commonly used in the early part of WWI. Tall cloth bag for spike. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Leather helmet good with shrinkage to leather due to age. Liner leather is shrunken and brittle. Cloth cover excellent. 51586-61 RT (350-500)
