BRONZE FIGURE OF WWII ERA JAPANESE NAVAL OFFICER.SN: N/A. Fine bronze figure of Japanese Naval officer holding binoculars in right and sword with handguard in scabbard in left hand. From the estate collection of a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. Bronze figures such as these were often given as retirement gifts to Japanese officers. This one may have been given to a schoolmaster at one of the U.S. Japanese training academies. Maker's marked at rear of base which is hollow. SIZE: 19-1/2" h. Base 5-1/2" x 5-5/8". CONDITION: Overall appearance is very good to extremely fine with some slight brassing at high edges around binoculars and top of cap. Sword has become detached at base and lower sword hanger strap detached at ring which could be soldered.
