QUEEN ANNE BOXLOCK FLINTLOCK SCREW CANNON BARREL PISTOL BY THOMAS RICHARDS WITH STEEL AND SILVER MOUNTS.THOMAS RICHARDSQUEEN ANN PISTOLNSN62Cal. 62. 5" Tapered cannon bbl, section removes from boxlock breech, which is fitted with semi-waterproof pan, bridled friction frizzen, and round bodied serpentine cock. Makers name "T. Richards" and London proofs are on bottom. (Thomas Richards worked in Birmingham from 1747 to 1779). Stock with knob butt has un-hallmarked silver mounts, consisting of pierced sideplate, fancy crest plate at top of grip engraved with stag over owners initials, and grotesque mask butt cap. Trigger guard is of steel. Silverwork was most likely done in Birmingham, and is not hallmarked because an assay office was not established in Birmingham until the 1770's. CONDITION: Good. Steel parts have dark gray patina over scattered pitting. Stock lightly refinished over many marks and bumps. Silver has been maintained well, and is lightly tarnished.
