REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD SILVER MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY ISAAC PRATT OF LONDON.ISAAC PRATTFLINTLOCK PISTOLNSN62Cal. 62. 7-1/4" Octagon to round tapered bbl is engraved "London" on top flat. Chamfered lock with long tapered tail, has early non-waterproof pan with bridled friction frizzen, and flat bodied serpentine cock. "I PRATT" is engraved under cupid's bow decorative filing at top of lockplate. Walnut full stock with knob butt is mounted with a combination of steel and silver. Steel trigger guard has relief acorn finial, and fancy silver mounts include pierced sideplate, escutcheon plate at top of grip, and relief cast acanthus decorated grip cap. Mounts bear hallmarks for Birmingham, sterling, and makers mark "CF" (Charles Freeth). No date stamp is visible. Isaac Pratt was working from 1771 to 1775. This type of pistol was carried by many officers both American and British during the Revolutionary War. Consignor states that this pistol was once displayed at the Flagler museum in Palm Beach Florida. PROVENANCE: Notes on this pistol and copy of article "Pistols and the American Revolution" from AMERICAN RIFLEMAN in 1955 by Harold L. Peterson. CONDITION: Good. Iron parts cleaned over deep pitting. Stock is sound with numerous marks and wear. No. "R1" is stamped on left side. Silver shows light wear and tarnish. Mechanically good. 31377-25 MGM23 (2,000-2,500)
