COLT ACE 22LR PISTOL WITH FACTORY LETTER SHIPPED TO W.R.A. CO.COLTACE380622LRMODERN; C&RCal. 22. 5" bbl. Pistol appears to have started as standard Colt Ace and received modifications by Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The purpose of these modifications is unknown but described here. Slide right side marked "COLT", diamond cartouche with "ACE", "22 Long/Rifle". Front sight is half rnd wide. Rear sight is Colt adjustable square notch. Left side of slide has Colt's standard nomenclature with colt to the rear. Firing pin and slide stop is standard ACE type with anti-friction roller. The entire slide internals have been skeletonized for weight reduction as was done on all Colt Aces. Right side of receiver marked with SN behind slide hold open pinhole. Left rear of receiver marked "W.R.A.CO.". Top of receiver shows two empty holes normally used by ejector on centerfire cartridge pistols. Left trigger guard bow upper shows "3" final inspector mark over verified proof. Right trigger guard bow upper shows "20" final assembly mark. Top of receiver shows "R" inspector mark. Factory supplied stocks have been replaced by much thicker dbl diamond stocks fabricated from a dark wood. Stock screws have been made to fit correspondingly longer stocks. Receiver has long wide spur hammer, checkered thumb safety and checkered ACE hold open. Trigger is short, milled and checkered. Grips safety is long tang. Mainspring housing is checkered with no lanyard loop. Magazine is Colt two tone Ace which appears to be unmodified and have orig Colt finish. Baseplate marked "COLT/ACE" in cartouche/22LR. Accompanied by factory letter acknowledging shipment to Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Connecticut, April 1, 1932. CONDITION: Extremely fine, as modified and refinished by W.R.A. Co. Entire pistol has been refinished with a semi satin polish. All modifications have been blued over. Bbl shows some apparent plating done on the outer forward portion. Receiver rails upper show signs of serious gunsmithing and fitting. Overall condition of pistol shows nearly 100% coverage of refinish. Mechanics are crisp. Magazine condition is excellent. 52548-1 KXK (5,000-7,000)
