SCARCE MAUSER MODEL 1878 ZIGZAG REVOLVER WITH HINGED FRAME. MAUSER REVOLVER ZIG ZAG 516 (visible through cylinder on bottom rear of bbl assembly) 11mm Cal. 11 mm. 5-1/2" bbl. This revolver was made for a short time between the solid frame and later hinged frame with cartridge extractor; this revolver is quite scarce. Integral rib of bbl is marked "GEBR. MAUSER & Cie OBERNDORF A/ N. WURTTEMBERG 1878. PATENT". Revolver is of bright blue finish with temper blued small parts, case hardened latch and hammer, and checkered walnut grips. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining perhaps as much as 80% orig bright blue with considerable overall light flecking with some associated pitting, with a few larger patches of missing finish, mostly on bbl toward muzzle. Left side of frame shows a number of percussion marks. Grips are fine, lightly worn. Bore is excellent. Mechanically fine. 52318-2 MGM193 (5,500-6,500)
