EXTREMELY RARE JAPANESE CONTRACT MAUSER K98 8X57 CAL. RIFLE.MAUSERK-988588X8x57MODERN; C&RCal. 8x57. 24" bbl. Standard markings. 42 code on receiver, dated 1938. WaA63 inspected. Bolt and handguard numbers are not matching, the rest of the gun matches. Bolt number has proper X suffix, as does the rest of the gun. Missing trigger guard locking screws. The Japanese contract guns were taken out of standard production, the only difference being the commercial Mauser stamp on left side of stock. Ref: p. 311 of Backbone of the Wehrmachtby Richard D. Law. This gun falls in the accepted SN range of Japanese contract guns. Missing cleaning rod. CONDITION: Very good, with most of the blue. Some areas of minor pitting. All markings clear. Wood is good with clear cartouche on left side of stock, clear markings on bottom of stock. Some staining to left side. Stock reinforcing lug on right side has scratches and tool marks.
