EARLIEST KNOWN WALTHER 1925 SPORT MODEL .22 PISTOL POSSIBLE PROTOTYPE. WALTHER 1925 1004 22 MODERN; C&R Cal. 22. 7-1/2" bbl. This gun is the earliest known Walther Sport pistol. Possibly a prototype as this particular gun exhibits features that are completely unique to this pistol. Marked on left side of slide "Walthers Patent", banner Walther. Marked on right side of slide with sgl line Walther address. Crown/BUG marking on right side of bbl as well as cal marking are partially visible. Crown/BU markings on right side of chamber and slide are clear. Checkered wood grips. Mag marked "0" on right side. Missing the rear sight. This gun was sold several years ago by another auction company, and at that time was attributed to having been "taken from the Walther factory by Major Constance". We do not have any supporting documentation to back up that claim. PROVENANCE: Ex Putnam Green Collection. Session two of the extraordinary Warren Buxton Collection. CONDITION: Good condition with a fair amount of blued finish, some light pitting in a few areas as noted. Bbl markings are partially illegible, finish may have been touched up. There appears to be a section of the outer bbl sleeve broken away at the chamber end on the right side. Grip is cracked in the usual spot on the upper rear left side. Checkering is very good. Set screw from right side of front sight is missing, as is rear sight. Bore is fine, bright with sharp rifling. Mechanics need attention, as lever on left side of frame does not stay as a hold open catch with front slide groove. 52342-44 GER (1,250-1,500)
