PREWAR GRIFFIN & HOWE MAUSER BOLT ACTION RIFLE ONCE THE PROPERTY OF G & H PRESIDENT JOE PRATHER.GRIFFIN & HOWEBOLT155630-06MODERN; C&R(ca 1937) Cal. 30-06. 24" Round bbl engraved "No 1556 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York" on top. Standard length Mauser 98 action has checkered bolt knob, and is fitted with Lyman 48 receiver sight. Standard military bottom metal has lock screw holes are filled. Dense European walnut stock with steel capped pistol grip has right hand cheekpiece, horn forend tip and well done wrap around checkering. Stock oval is engraved "J. E. P." Rifle comes with carrying sling and green padded canvas and leather case by Alexandre Mareuil embossed "JEP" on leather label. PROVENANCE: Property of Joseph Prather, former long time President of Griffin and Howe. CONDITION: Very fine. There is some silvering to restored metal finish, and a few marks in orig finish of wood, with some oil added as maintenance. Checkering lightly worn, with some bumps.
